Presenter for February Meeting, Nick Genovese

Nick Genovese, SOLA speaker for Feb 20, 2010

The next SOLA meeting is on February 20th, 2010 at 10 am. Please join us for a presentation by Nicholas Genovese on Writers’ Aids.

Nick Genovese is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Public Manager.  He is also a professor of Accounting at Tulane’s School of Continuing Studies.  He has twice been awarded the excellence in teaching award at Tulane, once in 1988 and then in 2005.

He retired from the Department of Revenue in 2002 after 37 years of service where he held the positions of Tax Auditor, Collection Manager, Audit Manager, and District Director.

Nick became acquainted with the Director of Paralegal Studies at Tulane University, Nancy Wagner and submitted story premises to her, all of which were politely returned with the statement, “You write it.”   One day while walking down the halls of Academe at Tulane, Nick encountered Nancy who said, “Oh, Nick, I have something for you.” She pulled out a sheet of orange paper and gave it to him.  It was a flyer for a one day workshop sponsored by SOLA with Debra Dixon’s presentation of Goal, Motivation, and Conflict: The Building Blocks of Good Fiction.

Nick had just retired from his job with the Department of Revenue and had nothing better to do with his time and decided to register for the workshop.  Nick later joined SOLA and has served as its Treasurer since 2003.  He has also coordinated an all day workshop with Alicia Rasley, has also coordinated the Dixie Kane Memorial Contest for the last three years and has coordinated SOLA’s Writers Retreat last year and is in the process of coordinating the Retreat for 2010.
